Civic Awards Nominations

Anyone can make nominate a recently completed building or project that they believe is of such a high design standard as to merit recognition.


Nominations in writing must include:

  • The address of the building or development
  • Basic Information about the work done
  • Date of completion
  • Where possible:
  • The name of the owner
  • The architect or designer
  • The main contractor
  • Photographs (preferably ‘before’ and ‘after’ for restoration and improvements)

Closing date for receipt of nominations is 31st December each year.

All projects must be situated within the Borough of Cheltenham and the work completed within the preceding two years. Nominated projects should normally be in locations visible to the public, and in certain cases interiors will be considered.

The Awards Process

Selection is made by an independent Awards Panel chaired by the Civic Awards Convenor. The panel is made up of one or two professional Civic Society members, a Borough Councillor and invited assessors from local business and organisations.

The awards consist of an illuminated citation and a decorative metal plaque. Commendations, with an illuminated citation, may also be made in each category.

A short list of around 20 nominated projects are visited by the panel prior to adjudication. In making their assessments, the panel takes into account factors such as context, originality and quality of design, materials, workmanship and standard of restoration.
